Mirjam Louws

Specialisation

Mirjam’s work covers the areas of the (international) trade of goods and logistics. After her study (maritime & transport and commercial law) she worked for 5+ years at a medium-sized law firm in Rotterdam after she joined Ploum in May 2019. She mainly deals with contracting and liability issues, but also advises and litigates on all sorts of matters concerning the EU and national regulatory framework setting out the rules and standards for importing products or placing products on the (EU) market.

She is very familiar with EU and national legislation and the whole legislative framework determining the obligations of economic operators (manufacturers, importers, fulfilment service providers, distributors, et cetera) and setting out the rules with regard to all kind of products, such as: (organic) food and feed, medicines, medical devices, toys and machinery.

She assists entrepreneurs active in the industries of Food & Feed, Healthcare & Life Sciences and Logistics where regulatory supervision and enforcement by authorities, such as the  NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority), Skal (Dutch Organic Control Authority), IGJ (Health and Youth Care Inspectorate), ILT (Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate) or Customs play an important role.

She furthermore has extensive expertise in conducting civil proceedings and drafting (and advising on) contracts (sale, purchase, logistics, et cetera) and is a strong litigator.

Background

In 2019 Mirjam followed the 2-Day course Food Law at the Wageningen University. In 2021, she successfully completed the Contracting Specialisation Course at Leiden University. Mirjam is a member of the Dutch Association for Food law, the Dutch Association for Transport Law, the Dutch Association for Maritime and Transport law and the Society Rotterdam Maritime. Mirjam regularly publishes on food law, contract law and EU regulatory framework topics.

The Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister)

Mirjam Louws has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

  • Transport and commercial law (transport- en handelsrecht)

Based on this registration, Mirjam Louws is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
