We are very proud to announce that Ploum’s intellectual property team has been included by World Trademark Review (WTR) in the new Copyright 1000 ranking, a unique guide listing the leading copyright experts in key legal jurisdictions worldwide.
Our IP team has been awarded a Silver ranking. According to WTR, Ploum excels in multidisciplinary copyright disputes. The team regularly advises on cases where copyright intersects with design rights, trade mark rights, technology and e-commerce. In such cases, Ploum often plays a coordinating role that extends beyond the courtroom, for example in the enforcement of (online) infringements.
In addition, Willem Leppink, Sabin Tigu and Paul Trapman have been ranked as ‘recommended individuals’.
Ploum thrives on copyright disputes that refuse to stay within one legal discipline. The team regularly advises on matters where copyright overlaps with design rights, trademarks, technology and e-commerce, helping clients develop coordinated strategies that extend well beyond the courtroom. Its broad intellectual property and technology practice is particularly valuable where online infringement, software or digital services create multiple legal and commercial challenges.
Paul Trapman brings extensive experience across copyright, designs, trademarks and confidential know-how, combining strategic advisory work with a strong litigation practice. Particularly adept at securing urgent interim relief, he also advises on advertising, domain names and the copyright implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Willem Leppink, who heads the firm’s IP group, is one of the Netherlands’ leading soft IP litigators, regularly coordinating cross-border enforcement programmes involving copyright, advertising, counterfeiting and parallel trade. His work as a domain name panellist further strengthens the firm’s online enforcement capabilities. Together, the pair are leading an international enforcement campaign for Liptis that has grown from a trademark opposition into a multi-jurisdictional dispute involving alleged counterfeit infant formula. The strategy has combined copyright and trademark claims with product seizures, freezing orders, EUIPO proceedings and domain name recovery, enabling the client to pursue alleged infringers across manufacturing, distribution and online channels through a coordinated European approach.
Sabin Tigu adds further strength in complex enforcement programmes, particularly those involving customs, parallel trade and coordinated action across multiple jurisdictions. His recent work for GroenLeven saw him pursue copyright and registered design claims concerning the alleged copying of the company’s solar carport, helping defend one of the client’s flagship products against imitation.
