Energy Commercial ContractsCaroline worked for almost 20 years as in-house lawyer with the British-Dutch energy major Shell, gaining experience and expertise in international commercial contracts and setting up businesses and joint ventures, providing legal support to (international) M&A projects including the implementation. In addition she supported many large projects for internal change and reorganisations.
Caroline stands out with her broad experience of working within a multinational making her very committed, and quick to understand the corporate culture and business of clients. She has a sharp eye for their specific challenges and understands the importance of good and trusting working relationships with clients ánd counterparties.
As in-house lawyer in the energy industry, Caroline has worked in the corporate legal commercial and M&A teams at Shell’s (former) headquarters in The Hague, as well as for local subsidiaries in Gabon, Australia, Madrid, London and other places around the world.
After contributing as lead lawyer in oil and gas exploration projects in the MENA region involving new country entries, new venture set-up, contracting & procurement activities, engagements with the authorities, commercial transactions, ethics & compliance matters, and new permitting rounds, she moved to Gabon for a secondment of 3 years, where he supported, the local Shell businesses.
Following her Gabon adventures, Caroline took the lead lawyer role in significant transactions amongst others in Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Indonesia, various European countries, and Australia being based in Perth including an major offshore asset swap, the multi-billion dollar acquisition of Repsol’s global LNG business and the 60 billion USD acquisition of BG and subsequent integration into the Shell Group. Her last role in Shell provided her valuable management experience, leading a team of around 20 lawyers across Europe and the Middle East supporting large M&A projects >100 million USD.
Caroline van Dam has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

Based on this registration, Caroline van Dam is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
