Rutger Ploum

Specialisation

Rutger advises and litigates in the field of employment law. Within that field, he focuses on individual and collective dismissal law, reorganisations (including the Collective Redundancy (Notification) Act, redundancy programmes and the Social-Economic Council’s mergers code), employment contracts, collective employment agreement issues, engagement agreements, appointment and dismissal of statutory directors, disciplinary measures, employee sickness absenteeism, competition law and pension law. Rutger works for both large (stock-exchange listed) companies and medium-sized companies and foundations. In addition, he specialises in dismissal of statutory directors. Rutger is also recognised as an IMI qualified Mediator and deals with Incentives.

Background

Rutger graduated from Leiden in 1989, after which he completed an internship at the Dutch embassy in Jakarta which involved setting up trade missions between the Netherlands and Indonesia. After this, he started work as a lawyer in Rotterdam. In 1995, he was one of the seven founders of Ploum. After completing the Post-Graduate Programme in Employment Law in 2000, in 2009 Rutger completed a course in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University of Amsterdam in 2009. As a result, besides being a lawyer and partner he is also a mediator.

Rutger Ploum has registered the following principal (and secondary) legal practice areas in the Netherlands Bar’s register of legal practice areas (rechtsgebiedenregister):

  • Employment law (arbeidsrecht)

Based on this registration, Rutger Ploum is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
